I'm wondering what power gains a stock ralliart would get with just the stock muffler mod and a test pipe.My goal is to gain throttle response/power without making my car loud.a little sound is understandable but I have little kids and I dnt want a loud exhaust plus a test pipe is cheap.I'm thinking that with the stock resinators and basically stock muffler ill gain power without making my car loud.plus it will save my cat for when smog comes up.what do u guys think?anyone run a test pipe and muffler mod? Any input about a stock exhaust with a test pipe?

Are you palnning on buying a premade test pipe or having a custom one made?I plan to buy flanges and make my own.I think ill modify my muffler at the same time I just need to decide what I'm gonna cut the muffler open with.it would be nice if someone had a sound clip so iwe know what to expect before we start.

I'm no expert on cutting metal. But I don't see why any grinder will work? Maybe someone with more experience can chime in. I know when I cut before I've just grabbed whatever and went to town. I mean your welding it shut anyways and your cutting a big whole inside? Why does it matter?

probly wont get much of a performance boost:(

From what I've heard removing the flapper spools the turbo up a little faster. It's almost like putting on a after market exhaust... almost... haha. There are some evo's that have done it and went to the dyno before and after and have seen performance gains. Not a lot of power but for the money it is defiantly worth it.

Well I have a cutting edge for my grinder so it should cut through pretty easy and the reason I'm going to use my grinder is because its easier to weld a clean cut shut than to fill in gaps from a jagged cut..thanks for the sound clips by the way.I'm not expecting to get a ton of power from this but I am expecting to improve my throttle response/boost lag.
Considering these mods are almost free,I don't think its possible for me to be disappointed. If I get anything from it it will be worth the work.plus I enjoy welding so any chance to weld is fine with me

A 3" diameter thin cutoff wheel on a die grinder is what we use to open up the flap.

I was at 260-270 whp on a stock turbo and an HKS cat back. Took out the cat and lost 5 whp. Spent an hour on the dyno futzing with it and got the power back. End result was louder and stinkier. No power increase. It is a small little baby turbo that stock thing.

My personal RA is producing 165 whp over stock and still on the stock unmodded cat back. The nice thing is it's just as quiet as stock.

The current exhaust setup is 3" 02 downpipe ---> Mini Muffler Testpipe ---> Oem unmodded catback.

I would imagine with the stock pea shooter turbo the cat back is not really what is holding you back. ;)

So is it safer to run a bbx lite over a bbx full to prevent overheating issues in your opinion?

Well bottom line I want to upgrade my car to its max capacity without having to upgrade the clutch. He's running 400whp no prob and I want to know how's his driveability is from track and daily driving

400whp? i thought he was at 360whp with E85.

Well you might not have to upgrade the clutch but you might have to replace them way sooner than normal...my .02.

bryan@gst; do you think I can run your setup with driving about 22K annually?
