Ok all, My buddy who owns a suby is all ranting and raving about me needing a oil/air separator for the blow off valve. Is it something that is just overlooked being oil does get misted into our intake from the blow off or is it people freaking out over nothing?

Any thoughts or comments?

Like to hear from Mike and Bryan..

Bump. Anyone have any thoughts about it?

GrimmSpeed has the one for the Subaru, Just curious if it's even needed for our engines?

oil/air separators become necessary when you start running higher boost....some boost is gonna get by the rings and into the crankcase and then out through the pcv valve, its inevitable and higher boost means more gets by....however the amount were talking about is minuscule and personally i see no need for it on a street driven car.....a full blown race only motor where tolerances are much tighter and the tunes much more aggressive...maybe

My HKS BOV came with a 1 way valve filter thiing that had to be put in line with the vacuum line.

I had an STi pushing 450 on the wheels, never needed that. Was he pushing like 800 to the wheels?
Edit, Subies have BPV not BOVs. Unless he has a FMIC and an aftermarket BOV.

He just installed a fmic and it's getting tuned wed. Not really sure what the difference is from a By Pass Valve to Blow Off Valve?

And Thanks all for the response.

Just did some more digging and figured out the difference, being the blow off is to atmosphere and the bypass back into the intake.

...the blow off is to atmosphere and the bypass back into the intake.

Why would anybody want to vent into the atmosphere and not recirculate?

Hey Adam,
I think what you looking at is air/oil separator that is for Subaru.

For Mitsubishi we have Oil catch can

Catch Can prevents build up of oil residue in the intake system and the engine.
A built in window easily displays the level of contents
