Nice video, the 3 port boost solenoid you have, what is the advantage of it ? Sorry I thought the Engine ECU handled boost spool up etc.. Is it necessary or give you a substantial advantage and if so how and what is the cost and how easy is it to install and tune it?

the 3 port boost solenoid is an upgrade to our factory one either will work just fine but the new one helps to smooth out the boost curve and makes it a little easier on the tuner. also cost is 130$. and install takes about 5 mins

it is not absolutely necessary as the factory one will work. BUT with our cars i have discovered you do not want to go with a manual or electronic boost controler.

this is because you will constantly be at one boost pressure and once you start to put out more HP especially on the track and takeoffs it becomes to much power for our trans to handle and will cause slipping.

the solution as i was told and which has worked good for me so far is gear based boost.

now our transmission (or ECU) dont have the ability to change boost in each gear but it does give the options of low gear and high gear.

currently when i am in low gears aka launch it will push out 21lbs of boost. then once done with launch and gear change it will push out 25 lbs of boost. tapering down to 15 lbs at 6850rpm (damn you small turbo).

so hope this helps and thats why i went with the H.O.A. 3 port boost solenoid instead of my gizzmo Boost controller. which by the way is for sale if anyone wants to try anyway lol or has a car it would work excellent on!

Got a link to the gear based one?

No because the dyno we used doesn't do simulated track runs just 3rd gear pulls which is when full boost kicks in

also the 2 step boost is actually controlled in your ecu but this helps make it easier to tune it and smooth the boost out.. sorry if i worded it wierd

Hard to believe that is on a stock turbo

I noticed toward the end of your Hp curve you start dropping..have you ever thought of putting back the stock cat or HFC?

My curve drops too and i have a test pipe as well

i have considered it but i love the sounds of the exhaust now lol so i havent been able to bring myself to do it. have you tested this at all? i imagined it would further decrease the hp on the high end because of the more restricted flow?

Mike@RRE on his project car switched out his test pipe and noticed that it picked up again...

Maybe it flows TOO freely?
