when you plasti dip the lower bumper underneath the ring, how do you keep the plasti dip from tearing when you remove the tap, to keep a solid straight line between oem paint and plasti dip?

every experience ive had with plasti dip ends up perfect until i take the taped off the taped off part, most of the plasti dip lifts up with it. whats the answer to this? remove tape while the plasti dip is still wet? no that cant make sense since you need more then 1 coat....

any suggestions?

Use a credit card or ace of spades to score across the edge you want to peel off.

would that be enough to make a clean peel? im thinking more of an exacto knife or something, but im scared of going through and scratching the paint

yes a card and pull at a 90 degree angle. so if the tape is upand down pull left or right whichever way is away from the plasti dip thats what i did and it worked good for me

I used an x-acto knife, just don't press too hard and your paint will be fine.

This thread made me interested in plasti-dipping my chrome ring, but got a few questions about this:

1. Can the plasti-dip withstand multiple trips to the car wash? Or would you need to wash it yourself to take extra care around the plasti-dipped part?
2. What about the bottom part of the bumper? Since there's no real edge, will the plasti-dip peel off after a few trips to the car wash?
3. Is there anything we can do to protect the plasti-dip?

Old thread status lol

I had plastidip on my rims on my leased GTS for 10 months before turning the car in to the dealership. It hadn't even started to peel.. The dealership left it on there and the car sold within a month. ;)

I did 4 coats. If you do plastidip your rims, make sure you clean them really well before applying the plastidip.. My dad had this rag that took off every spec of dust, I'm sure you can get it from home depot or lowes. The cleaner they are, the better the dip will stick ;)

Sorry to bring an old thread up again but I was thinking of plasti dipping my stock rims. What color do you think would be best? I was thinking either Blaze orange, green or yellow. Thoughts?

I see you changed an option to orange. Orange would be my vote. I'm not sure it will be the popular opinion though.

Yeah I meant orange instead of blue. I think it would look weird being blue on blue lol. I'm kinda sick at the moment so I think I was not typing what I was thinking 100% lol. I've seen green done already but I haven't really seen orange or yellow. I was gonna also paint my roof rack to match. If I don't like it I can always peel it off.

Dipped the wheels, emblems and front chrome piece ... made it into gunmetal color ... pretty pleased with the result! Next project, paint the brake calipers GOLD!
