Hey guys I have done some searching around and I haven't really found anything that sounds very very close or exactly like stock. I live in California and I think the most we can get is a Catback. Does anyone know what the quietest aftermarket catback is. I know there are a few I have seen: HKS Legalmax, Greddy, Dynomax. I still think they are a little too loud for my comfort. I would like my car to be a sleeper and not be loud and ricey. Thanks.

the hks is pretty much as quiet as its going to get for an aftermarket cat back unless you get one custom made by mike at RRE, he does magnaflow ones that ive heard are really good and affordable.

Ultimate racing is pretty good...I'm very impressed with the exhaust...but I do have the resonator and mini muffler mid section...it's a lil louder and deeper compare to the infiniti g35's...hope this helps...

Do not get any aftermarket exhaust if you want your exhaust quiet like stock.
You may be able to get away with aftermarket if you stamp Mitsubishi logo on it, nothing shinny because it attracts attention.

Whats your purpose for exhaust mod if you wanted quiet?
Power? if so RRE can take care of that on the stock exhaust.

Im updating FAQ thread in each section i will post links when I have some free time. (free time: if only that was true)

I'm basically looking for something that will give me more power but with minimal sound increase. I'm not a big fan of the coffee can sounding exhaust and I used to have a firebird with straight through exhaust and that was too loud. Quiet is better for me.

Well...I'm not saying UR's exhaust is quiet...what I'm trying to say is UR catback w/resonator and minimuffler as mid section it'll sound like a G35 but a bit louder and deeper tone...:p

Does anyone have one of RRE's custom exhaust? If so, How does it sound? Oh yeah I would like to find something that doesn't drone at highway speeds.

It does not drone. The sound is more enhanced at lower RPM's than high, I think. It just gives it a much lower rumble than previously. It's not loud at all!

When I installed mine, I could not resist the urge to start it up and blip the throttle with the rear muffler removed. I was shocked. Not a Honda. :)

You cant go wrong the the RRE custom, mate.

That's actually good to know about the sound. Gabos, did you get the Axel back only? Next, does anyone know if it would it be worth it to get the entire catback with just the stock turbo or would an Axel back be ok?

Sweet jesus ++++++++1

This is an exhaust that sets off countless car alarms daily and one so loud even a deaf person could hear it.

Buschur makes a very noticeable silent exhaust

I have the magnaflow catback that mike@rre made. Not event loud at all and looks completely stock but I still got pulled over by a CHP last week for having a modified exhaust. In the end he gave me a verbal warning. I'm guessing it's because after he looked under my car and saw all the piping was black so he wasn't sure if it was "modified" or not. :)

ltn

what was his reason for pulling you over? Are your tips silver or black? Did you do anything with your cat or is it just a cat back?

c2g
05-31-2011, 06:44 PM
His reason was tinted windows and modified exhaust. My catback looks like a stock one. But round tips instead of oval and 3" piping. In the end, he gave me a fix it for my windows. He also said my exhaust was loud (I was cruising at 45 mph in 6th gear). I guess it's all up to the officer to what is "loud" and what's not. I could post up a pic of how it looks like later if you want to see.

Well, in the end, you have to take into consideration that the state and cities are fishing for money right now. They'll find SOMETHING to pull you for if they want to. I've been pulled over more times in my RA than I've ever been pulled over in my life, and I've run a lot of modded cars. ('93 Escort GT with J-spec Mazda 323 turbo'd engine - that had a 3" exhaust straight back with no cat, '95 F-150 Lightning, with dual 3" exhaust and glass packs, '99 Civic Si with every rice trick imaginable...) In all of those cars I only got pulled over 4 times, and I've been pulled over in the RA 6 times in the last year, and only been ticketed once. Every time they try to find something, which is why I'm trying to keep the RA as stock looking as possible. I'm even thinking twice about lowering it.

Anyway, regarding exhaust - I have the modified stock exhaust and it's about as good as you can get without attracting the rozzers and it's a CHEAP mod. If I do decide to do something else with the exhaust, it's gotta look stock and I think the RRE exhaust would be the way to go. I'd like to see some good pics of it, or see it in person to really make the decision about how factory it looks.

Ive been pulled over twice! *knock on wood!

None of the times mod related :)

You guys are talking me into the UR exhaust, lol. Personally I dont mind loud (and I dont live in CA), its "ricey" I have a problem with.

MTZL
06-01-2011, 06:50 PM
The term "rice" is always used loosely.

All Asian made cars are Ricers.
Because it was known as or jokingly told was powered by rice, like the great wall of china. :D
Since you/we own a Mitsu, it is consider a ricer. Congrats!
It was used in derogatory manor about all Asian made cars.
Rice Rice Baby. ***Cue the Vanilla Ice theme song***

csg do you think you can post some pics. I'm very interested in seeing how the exhaust looks from the back and if you have a sound clip. Thanks.

I recorded that while I was at work. Will make a WOT sound clip tomorrow

Yes to what he said but thanks again for the picks and sound clip. I'm definitely leaning towards this exhaust for look and the sound. I think you said there is no drone in the cabin at freeway speeds too. Right?

c2g
06-03-2011, 09:25 AM
When cruising on the highway you can barely hear the exhaust but when you let off the gas and decelerate, it drones a little. Maybe it's because I have a sportback and everything echos back there.

ltn
06-03-2011, 10:21 AM
That is good to know. I have a sportback to but it already kind of drones when I deccelerate but I think its more the engine. Maybe it will sound different with the exhaust.

c2g
06-03-2011, 06:19 PM
Hope this vid is better. Revved to 6500 RPM. Again, recorded with my iPhone so it may sound a little different then in person.

Sounds good man thanks for the sound clips. I'm thinking I'm going to have to get me an exhaust system from RRM. C2G, Did you have them install it or did you do it yourself? If they installed it how long did it take?

c2g
06-06-2011, 10:33 AM
Mike sold it to another member here then sold it to me. I did the install myself.

ltn
06-06-2011, 11:38 AM
So basically a direct bolt up? How long did it take you?

c2g
06-06-2011, 05:22 PM
Yep direct bolt on. Took me about 45 mins because I was drinking and hanging out with my friends at the same time lol. I think it would have taken me about 25 mins or less if I did it without taking breaks.
