17x7.5's will look way to small and awkward on our cars. Id find rims that are 18x9 at least.

he said they would be his winter wheels man, you dont want wide wheels in the winter.

I would personally get a set of ES or DE wheels and throw snow tires on them. As soon as I get new permanent wheels for my RA, I'm giving my stock 18" wheels to my gf and she's giving me her ES wheels, just for that purpose.

A buddy of mine is running 17x7.5+40 and they fit just fine.

Yes 17" wheels should clear stock brakes.

:D

I personally think the 17" wheels are a bit on the small side for this car, not to mention the 16" that come on the DE and ES models.

Your cracking me up BravoZero, And the small rims on the De models are funny, They look light tho.

I use 16" steel rims as well for winter, from the Lancer SE I had before the RA. With the Mitsubishi hubcaps, it doesn't look too bad.

smaller rims = less rotational mass. since the difference in tire weight with an additional 1" or 2" of sidewall will be significantly less than the difference in 1 - 2" of wheel. better handling (faster suspension response), better acceleration (every lb of rotational mass lost is about the same as 8lbs of car weight when accelerating) - and (as was the case in my Dodge pickup) the smaller/lighter wheels will help gas mileage, if thats a concern.

as long as you keep the overall tire diameter the same, or darn near, you shouldnt have any strange looking wheel gaps either... plus the additional sidewall should help some with road noise

I also had 16" steels for winter. They clear stock brakes.

+1 for 16 Inch Steel Winter Rims
As do I having used them the last 2 winters with 205mm rubber

esthetically speaking the car was designed around 18" so when you see more "black" (more tire) blending into the gap between rim and fender, quarter panel, to some may look small. After all you give away an inch or two in diamtere is noticable.But......for free it wont bother me with all seasons on 17" alloys:)
