View Full Version : Ralliart Aluminum Under Panel
Im going to buy some aluminum & have a machine shop build it.
Im not going to do mass production but willing to help anybody interested.
I just wanted to know who here is interested?
If there are enough interest I will get more aluminum.
it will be 3/16th of an inch.
-It will have SST drain cover
-Oil Filter Cover
-Oil Drain Bolt Cover
-Vent to cool SST from under panel (similar to stock)
I will keep the price as low as possible.
My time is free, Machining labor will be at cost.
Inspired by SSP 6061 aluminum plate (http://clubralliart.com/showpost.php?p=10245&postcount=53)
(unfortunately, Ralliart doesnt get the same love as Evo)
so my plan to make one for Ralliart with SST drain cover.
Maybe also SST filter cover.
***I will update more info as I go along***

This is an interesting idea. But won't it add weight? I'm probably missing the bigger picture.

Interested for sure as I have mangled the stock plastic one a few times by driving through flooded streets to fast and racing on gravel. Would be nice to have some real protection.

Had an EVO X in the shop today that had did some RallyX events. He had an aluminum undertray from Primitive Racing on it that was pretty stout. Check it out for inspiration or just to buy if the price is right. I dont see it on their website but I saw it in person.

Yep...I'm an idiot. Now I see why someone would put one of these on their car. I guess I need to take this thing off road more.

Hmmm interesting. Thanks Mike. I was thinking of covering the coolers & venting them but this route is much easier.
I need access to a lift for proper measurements & mounting points & cut out areas, venting areas. Measurement of the stock under panel & its mounting points. Next is the 3d model, after that will be the machine shop.
Shipping cost is what I am worry about the most.
How much are you expecting this to cost for us shipped?
How much are you expecting this to cost for us shipped?
Depends on weight & dimension. Since it is going to be awkward size which wont fit in any standard shipping boxes...
I will have to wait until I have the machine shop make prototype for weight.
Im looking at different logistic companies for shipping. Ground Freight might be the cheapest route.
It is a slow process right now...:(

Mike I'm interested in this. I prefer it to be exact size as stock not like the one in the picture.
This is going to be delayed. Im without working laptop.
Im still going to make this happen just going to take longer than anticipated. :(
Brief update: I got a chance to put the Ra on a lift.
Took some pictures to start the preliminary design.
Next step is measurements & mounting points.

Taking factory design into consideration. Tow hook points, Jacking point, Ventilation I marked in circle.
Also measuring Oil filter & drain panel, & SST Drain Panel

Like usual I am waiting and watching from a far distant land to the north at the centre of the North American continent.
Bad News:
I apologize for posting this info too prematurely.
Machine shop is always too busy to work on afew projects I had given them. They based their priority on their biggest account customer.
They had agreed to work on the project but they also have family they would like to see at the end of day.
I dont blame them but I may have to find another place..
Also I had put this project on the back burner.
Money is the tight so budget is one of my biggest issue with getting multiple projects in production.
Getting enough materials for all that are interested will cost me more than I have in my bank account. So I have been looking around for loans.
Good News:
I have not abandon anything, just reorganized the priority list.
This is still on my list of things to do. It will be done once I have the budget for it.
This is something we will have to exercise patience.
Bank doesnt want to let me borrow money til I own something worthy of collateral. If I had money I wouldnt need to borrow money. :D
I now have a couple of friends that are taking 'Tech Shop' (a place where they have every tools & equipments to make parts/things with CNC machines, 3d scanners, etc.) You pay monthly to attend & trained personal assist you with how to. I may either get a membership or have my friends help me. I see the light at the end of the tunnel! :D
I also need to confirm RA SB under tray is the same as on the sedan.
If there are variation(s) I would have to design one around both or have to do two designs.

If I had money I wouldnt need to borrow money
Isn't that the truth!
I have a SB and I'm 99% sure it's identical (the front end all the way to the rear door jam is identical I think).
Thanks for the input. Hopefully, that 1% doesnt come back to kick our ass. :D

I found one that already sells online specifically for our car, and guess what it fits the sedan and the sportback as well. Here is the link.

299? For flat sheet of aluminum???
I will make one better. Just got to have Patience...
I have afew bills that need to be paid & Im going full steam on this project.
My workplace (the company I work for) is going to fund my tech shop class. ;)

I have known about that plate for awhile but i want something that will cover everything under the bumper just like the evo one. So i will wait for MTZL to make a better one...

that plate does look like a plain sheet screwed onto the car !
i have access to a sheet metal shop and one of the guys has made a full truck basicly from the ground up so a simple skid plate shouldn't be much of an issue and i think i can get them on board with this if there is real "need"

If you can get them made with
-SST drain cover
-Oil Filter Cover
-Oil Drain Bolt Cover
-Vent to cool SST from under panel (similar to stock)
-Holes for two tow hook, jack point, & under panel vent.

If this is still going on im also interested
Update:
Ok, D3Souz4 volunteer to AutoCAD it. I promised D3Souz4 measurements.
I have been swamped at work weekdays & on the weekends.
Finding time for myself is rare, as Im always trying to do more than I can handle something always slip thru the crack.
On to the measurements (I misplaced the files), if anybody else can help with the measurements would be very helpful. Pics of the underpanel with the measuring tape etc.
If not I will have to make time, in the near future... re-measure & pics.
Hold On D3Souz4, be patient.

I will see if I have time this weekend to do this for you as I need one in the worst way. As my car club has now geen light future rally cross, Ice cross and other events mostly off road I will need this ASAP.
^Jack that would be excellent. Thanks for being a team player.

Ive had my skidplate on my car for 5 months now and its taken some amazing hits including driving over a few trees and snowbanks etc. The skid plate has a slight bend in it which I will be taking it off the car to straighten at a later date. Car is at the body shop getting front end fixed and new paint for complete both sides, front end and hood. Hopefully I will have car back by the end of the month and will be selling it the end of summer.

Ha, no wonder you keep needing to fix your bumper almost every month, lol.
That's awesome stuff though, you're braver than I am taking it off road. Even though it's technically a rally car.
