Check the threads didn't really see anything specific about tires...mostly on rims and tires that is different size them OEM's...

I'm start saving to replace my Yoko Advans, I'm still on stock rims though...

I found this tire that suit my needs...

Kumho Ecsta SPT (Ultra High Performance Summer) $129.00 (per tire via tirerack.com)

* Size: 215/45ZR18
Sidewall Style: Blackwall
Serv. Desc: 89Y
Load Index 89 = 1279lbs (580kg) per tire
Speed Rating "Y" = 186mph (300kph)
UTQG: Treadwear: 320
Traction: AA
Temperature: A

for the price this is the best i've found...cuz according to specs...it has excellent traction and treadwear compare to Yoko's...which I need the most is that the tire tread is gonna last longer then yoko's

However...let me know what u guys think about Kumho's...my friend said Kumho make pretty good tires...

but if you guys can share your thoughts on any other OEM size tires w/good value and performance...that'll be great...

I've always love falkens, I'm on fk452's and i love them. if they are a little out of your price range you can go with the ziex 912's and they are a little cheaper.

Kumho makes an excellent tire. I use the ASX on my 16" off season wheels and the XS on my stock rims for AutoX.

I'm running bfgoodrich g force tires, size 235's. There a lot better than the stock rubber. Are you planning on staying with 215's?

I had Nitto NT05s and loved them. They were sticky, handled well, and responded well. However, tread life on those things suck since it was so soft (treadware was 200). I am getting Continetal DWs. They got good overall ratings on tirerack. They should be here o Wednesday and I'm going on a mountain run on Sunday so I'll let you know how they perform.

yeah...primarily I'm looking for tire that have a higher treadwear...but not those of all season tires...

imo...our stock yoko's have too short of a life-span...

If you want a decent tire all season with good traction and tread life check out Cooper tires as they are cheap but tough as nails or just check the ratings on Tire Rack etc..

I'm running Toyo Proxy 4 sized 225/40/18 on stock RA wheels. I've been really happy with these - they stick better and last way longer that the stock yoko's. Check with Muellerized for a great price plus install...

I've used Kumho in the past on different cars and was always happy with them, but I haven't tried them on an AWD car so no idea really...

I had Yokohama AVID W4S all season performance tires on my Eclipse and they were fantastic in any weather, and handled well too. These stock Yoko's... not so much.

All the Subie guys at the SCCA events fight back and forth over which is better; Kumho XS or Dunlops Star Spec. I can confirm the XS' are hella sticky tires.

I have used those. I LOVED the NT05's. I have been using the NT555 Extreme ZR for awhile for the same reasons as stated above, though. I will not go back. The NT555 is quiet, plenty sticky, great in the rain, and not so bad on the tread-wear front. I can honestly say that; after trying BF Goodrich, Cooper, Michelin, Bridgestone, and Hankook; the Nitto tires are my favorite by a mile. I am on my second set in as many cars, and I have had not one problem.

I'm resurrecting this thread...

I finally decide to get my tires replaced...I'm gonna go wit Kumho 4X all-seasons...

I've did a lot of cross checks between all the online stores who sells falken ze912, kumho spt and kumho 4x...and the 4x have a lot more positives the others...I've also looked at contis...didn't really like them too much....

Anyways...I'm gonna order them then once I put those on ill post review...

Star specs would be my first choice. But I bought my car used and some crazy person only replaced 2 tires...so I had to get to potenzas which aren't bad.

I've been running a set of 235/40-18 Continental DWS all seasons, HUGE improvement over the crappy Yoko's. I actually feel safe when driving in bad weather now, although I have yet to test them in snow since we haven't had any. The OEM Yoko's were so bad that I could feel the car pull in the rain, which scares me since I'm still overcoming my Subaru accident and dealing with the crappy tires and bad weather during that incident.

I have only used Proxes 4 on my last 3 cars and they have been great. They have awesome grip in the wet and lasted a long time, I forget how long but much longer than the Yoko's did.

Even though the car's been a beast, we've had some up and down weather with +10 for 2 weeks at a time, then 2-3 days of -30 and 20cm of snow, it's such non-sense.

Anways, got a great deal on some:
18 x 8.0 5x114.3 ET 35 AR8 Replicas with
245/40R18 Hankook W300 IceBears

Quite enjoying the way better grip. But I am noticing the slightest wheel rub on had bounces. Someone suggested a whiteline sway-bar to fix that up and while I suspect it will firm up body roll, it won't do much for horizontal travel in the suspension will it?

I'm running stock suspension and as mentioned, the only rub would generally be if I hit some uneven pavement while doing 120 on the highway. It feels like the back end is just bouncing too hard from the dip and rubbing away one side or the other.

Even at stock height, you might rub with 245's and anything more (less?) than 40 offset, even the 38 offset of the EvoX wheels with 245's can rub. The problem is not only the rear shocks are a tad soft, but you have that fender lip in the back. Once you take care of that lip with a decent fender rolling, you'll be good to go.

Because the swaybar links both sides of the suspension together, it acts like a stiffer spring and will increase the amount of force required for a given distance of travel.

That said, it should reduce the frequency of your rub some but clearance through tire size, offset, or fender rolling is the only way to completely eliminate it.

Nice! I am very interested in how they turn out. I had a set of ASX (16") and they were great. almost identical specs, slightly diff tread pattern. The 4X is said to be a better predecessor. A few say stiffer sidewall.

Ecsta 4X (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/BigPic.jsp?sidewall=Blackwall&tireMake=Kumho&tireModel=Ecsta+4X&partnum=34WR8E4XXL)

Yes...the specs are almost identical and 4X is going to replace ASX...and between cross-referencing 4 diff sites and googling...more ppl likes 4X then ASX...and seems that ASX have a lil more problems as far as road noise, wet grip issues and couple instance of bubble/warp? But no negatives on the 4X...so far I ran about 30 miles on it...4X feels more "sturdy" then yokos...but ill do a more detail write up as the tires gets more miles...

Ok...I had these tires on for about 130 miles...so far no complints...today I have to step on my bearks cuz some stupid chick came out from a parking lot and decide to park middle of my lane...although I was driving about 30-35 mph...the car stopped w/full confidence! These tires performed very well thus far...I'm very impressed....

Btw...my aligment was off prior to my new tires...got it fixed...

sorry, got a noob question, i have some 17" EVO9 BBS with Nt05 i use on my other car.. will there be any tech or fitment issues with running those rims? they look like theyd fit easy enough more thinking of speedo and gearing? specs are 17x8+38 looking to cut weight and tire costs..

Will work just fine. At a 235/245 width on stock springs, you will rub in the rear w/o a roll on hard bumps.

All depends on the tires yo go with. I have 245/45/17's on an 8" +35. Check my gallery link in my sig. Those are all with the TSW's.

I thought you were on 8.5" or 9" wide wheels.

The sidewall doesn't seem to hang over in your pics- is that true?

I've been searching for a good 17x8.5 or 9 that's not going to murder my bank account, but if 8" works, there are more options it seems.

Would you recommend a slightly higher offset than +35 (for stock susp.)?

GAbOS
02-07-2012, 04:25 PM
I also have Evo X Enkei's. They are 18x8.5. I have 235/40's on those and they do not rub with +38, but my 17's do at +35.

They do not hang over the tire. It's like a sheer rock face, straight up. :D

I run the stock rims for DD on Continental DWS 225/40/18's.
And my track setup is Konig Runaway's on 18x8 with a +35 offset, wearing Federal 595's 225/40/18.

EDIT: The Konig Runaway's are actually +35 offset.

KyleKitchen

Hahaha I thought so.
I wasn't sure though.

I'm on Eibach Pro-Kit's.
On the track set up with +35 offset the wheel sits almost perfectly flush with the fender and the stockies look gay and pretty much disappear under the rear fenders. I'm rolled front and back and pulled in the rear.

I'm not looking to do any HerraFrush shit, have massive spacers or a slammed car.
I just want to build a good Track/DD Street car that can handle well at the track and be able to be survive daily driving conditions without ripping my fenders off.
I'll be upgrading to coilovers very soon too.

I think the max this car should be dropped is 1.8" front and maybe 2.0" rear before it loses it's purpose.

The grip has been excellent, especially in rain. The only downside is soft sidewalls, so I run them at 44psi hot.

Im sitting on 18x8.5 +35 VarrStoens on Bridgstone's Potenza 970AS Pole Position 225/40-18R

Great tires, moves on water as if it's dry asphalt and looks amazing. They do give a slight wheel well noise in rain but the handling is remarkable. I am on Tein S-tech springs with GTS spring rate, so it sits slightly lower bc of the added weight. I have no rubbing issues, but i drive slow, bc those rear fenders WILL hit the sidewall if I hit an agressive bump.

Now if Continental would fix those soft sidewalls, it would be the perfect summer street tire.
