I know that I will be contacting Mitsubishi today to find out if they back SOPA or not. So far Ford has said they do not support SOPA so you can go ahead and get that new Fusion when it comes out.

DO NOT BUY THESE BRANDS!

BMW Group (BMW, Mini, Rolls Royce)
Chrysler Group (Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep)
General Motors (Chevy, Buick, Cadillac, GMC)
Jaguar Land Rover
Mazda
Mercedes-Benz USA (Mercedes Benz, SMART, Maybach)
Mitsubishi
Porsche
Toyota (Toyota, Scion, Lexus)
Volkswagen (Volkswagen, Audi, Bentley. Lamborghini, Bugatti)
Volvo

Also note that although Jalopnik listed Subaru under Toyota, they only have a 16% stake and 1 board member. Subaru is still owned and controlled by Fuji Heavy Industries.

Here is a great CNET article that talks about SOPA. In short it will give the US attorney general power to shut a web site off the internet, all a company has to do is file a complaint. That means is Suzuki did not like what members here had to say they could just file a Copyright complaint with USAG, and they would take us offline. If SubCompactCulture.com wrote a negative Toyota story then Toyota could just have them shut off. This could be abused to no extent to limit free speech in the US and is affront to our basic human rights and spits on the Constitution.

I am waiting to hear back from Mitsubishi, if they are going to stand with Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers then it looks like it will be a new Suzuki SX4 or Kia Forte for me.

Just a reminder once again guys this is ONLY USA law from what I am hearing maybe someone can elaborate further on this. So not the world and as such if a site is hosted on a server outside the USA then they would have to convince the country where ther server was located to take such actions on their behalf.

It's USA only, but they are going to put a huge Proxy on the country itself. Like China for example. They will just 'turn off' site access in the USA, whether hosted here or not.

So let me get this straight....
You post on a RA forum where everyone on the board already owns a Mitsu to tell them NOT to buy a Mitsu?

Can I borrow a time machine? :D:D

Seriously, this SOPA thing is turning in to a y2k. Mitsubishi does not give a CRAP about what goes on in the internet forums devoted to their cars. I have actually heard stories of Mitsubishi USING the forums to deny warranty claims when a car was identified on a forum, and the user's mod list was looked at. Honestly, we are peons to Mitsubishi. I am on my fourth Mitsubishi right now, and I would happily buy another one tomorrow. And I'm quite sure that a great deal of people were convinced TO buy their mitsus through forums like this one. The tuner world is a free advert to them. I really don't see them trying to shut it down.

Selling your Mitsubishi isn't going to help the problem.

The only thing I can recommend is not buying any OE parts, and not going to the dealership for paid repairs.

This is what I do to any GM or Chrysler car I work with, and if I ever want one, I buy it used.

SOPA = Stop Online Piracy Act
PIPA = Protect IP Act
Two Bills that Congress is trying to pass to censor & police the internet.

They say, They are trying to stop online piracy, illegal file copying & sharing.
What that means is any type of intellectual property (digital files) with copyright & its info may be blocked or inaccessible. The law will make it so that the internet providers would be responsible to monitor & give out info about users.
(FYI: Internet used to be completely free, some where down the line we had started paying to use the internet)

So what does that means overall? limited info on the internet. File sharing will be against the law. Such as google, yahoo, & any search engine out there will have censorship to links & sites.

Lobbyist got hollywood to pressure silicon valley to comply.

"Internet Blackout" is kind like the classifies documents with black sharpies on certain details. Which means part of the internet is only available to certain few with knowledge & that would against the law.

==================================

The argument
"More than 2.2 million hard-working, middle-class people in all 50 states depend on the entertainment industry for their jobs and many millions more work in other industries that rely on intellectual property," Michael O'Leary of the Motion Picture Association of America (http://www.mpaa.org/resources/5a0a212e-c86b-4e9a-abf1-2734a15862cd.pdf) said in a statement. "For all these workers and their families, online content and counterfeiting by these foreign sites mean declining incomes, lost jobs and reduced health and retirement benefits."

Counter-argument
"This bill reverses the policy that has been in place since the beginning of the Web," he said, "that Internet companies shouldn't be liable, nor should they be required to police or snoop on their users."

==================================

My perspective
I work in Silicon Valley & we're part of the gear that drives the Entertainment & Software industry. Anytime Intellectual property end up in the blackmarket, it effect our business & our income but using that as an excuse to pass SOPA & PIPA will not stop online piracy.

My opinion
Just like prohibition & war on drugs until they find a way to sell it, it would be illegal.

Ford does support SOPA, here a list of a few companies that do. vvv
Link (http://www.theglobalipcenter.com/sites/default/files/pressreleases/letter-359.pdf)

Don't forget the part where all of the big US pharmacutical companies are lobbying for it so that legit Canadian and other foreign pharmacy websites will be blocked in the US.
Technically, it is illegal to have Rx's imported from other countries but, the legitiment Rx sites still require a doctors prescription before you can order your medication. For some "odd" reason you can legitimately get the same prescriptions in Canada for 40-60% cheaper than in the US.
It's all about the money. ;)

Piracy is a legitimate concern and should be more closely monitored and controlled.
But, SOPA and PIPA are so loosely worded that it strays too far from its main "goal" and starts interfering, monitoring and enforcing the internet as a whole. They want to control what we can say, hear and see.

Yeah what a world we live in.

I still laugh about the txt msg & email to warn students of school shootings.
What a problem solving logistics our leaders have, they're so smart. :rolleyes:
