View Full Version : Summer Tyres

So I just found out either my car is HORRIBLE on tyres or that I am just very aggressive. But I won't make next inspection on my Stocks. (Ironically, only like 16,000 miles on them, my old Mazda went like 26k on their stock all seasons).

I have a set of Blizzaks for winter. So i only need a good set of Summers and for the occasional Rain storm, so don't need crazy all season type tread pattern.

I don't track it (Yet), and it's my DD, and I live in Pittsburgh... which means the roads are shit, Potholes everywhere and overall crap road conditions (from constant construction). My main concern is ride comfort as the stocks are very loud.

Anyone have thoughts on these?

The Potenzas are great summer tires but they're going to wear just as quickly as the stock tires if not more so. They're also going to be 10x better than the stock Yokos. If you're on a bit of a budget the Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star-Specs are more affordable and are great street tires but only average on the noise and wet weather performance.

The Pirelli PZero Nero is an excellent street tire. It handles bumpy roads well and is quite good in rain.

The Conti Extreme Contact DWS also gets excellent reviews.

I had Federal SS595's on my SRT-4 and '09 Lancer, no complaints.

I have a set of P zero nero on my car. They're great and better than the stock Advans for sure.

But you will need to rotate them regularly to keep the noise down and I don't think they will last a long time.

Agreed.

The service manual for Canada specifies tire rotation every 3 months.

The Continental DWS are good for an all-season tire however if you are going for summer tires go with the Continental DW or ContisportContact 3s.

I agree.

I have the Conti DW, and aside from softer than expected sidewalls in a XL tire, it has been spectacular. Rain performance is the best I've ever seen in any street tire.

Weird... this may be obvious, but have you checked your alignment and toe?

I had the Federal 595's as well, and they're a good affordable summer tire.

I really liked my Hankook v12's

Not weird at all for these tires, strangely enough. Check the reviews for the Conti ExtemeContact DW and others mention the soft sidewalls as well. It's one of the few flaws in an otherwise excellent tire. To compensate, I use slightly higher tire pressure.

As for alignment, that's not the issue. I had mine done immediately after I bought the tires earlier this season, and I get it done regularly.

Hrmm, when I search Tirerack, I don't see any of these tyres listed...

Wonder if im doing something wrong in the search. Or maybe they don't carry these tyres?

Ok, found out that the Conti's don't come in 215, guess I gotta look for different wheels then; but that's getting even more expensive.

Look for 225/40. That's what I'm running on the factory rims. No issues at all.

I have seen very good reviews for the ventus V12 gets good reviews.

Only criticism I heard was it wears very quickly if you take it on the track.

From what the manager told me, you have to put the Order in at a firestone between 5 and 9 am. And the deal is on all tyres they carry.

Has anyone had the BFGoodrich g-force KDW 2's?

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=BFGoodrich&tireModel=g-Force+T%2FA+KDW+2&partnum=445YR8GFTAKDW2&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes

if so, what did they think of them? they seem like a BA tire for summer tires, especially for the price
