So I have been noticing this happening a lot more in my 11 ralliart when I turn my car off there is a loud bang. My car is stock besides a k&n drop in and I have just over 8k miles. At first I thought it was maybe a back fire but that normally doesn't happen when you turn the car off. It kinda sounds like the noise is coming under neith the drivers seat or a littlle in front of the seat. Any suggestions or similar situations would be appricated thanks!

Well i think you should take it back to the dealer you bought it from straight away.

If its something like unburnt fuel ending up in your catalytic converter and then it igniting inside it, you probably don't want to be inside the car if that happens too often.

I don't really know but hey that's just what it sounds like from your description.

Yeah... What Rok says...

Sounds kinda serious. And you only have 8k on your 2011?? :(

I've had my 2012 RA for 11 weeks now and I have almost 6,500

I did take it to the dealer and they could not get the issue to duplicate and neither could I. The car is running fine no CEL I racked my car at work and looked under it and did not see anything out of the ordinary so I will just have to wait until it happens again.

Can you explain the bang and situation when it happens more clearly?

Maybe it's some pissed off yard gnome that live under your drive way. You never know.

Let's hope it stays like that and the gremlin is banished. Good luck!

Lol at the gnome hopefully that's all it was. I have been driving it how I normally drive and I have not had anymore issues since the 24th when i posted.

just a guess but maybe the clutches realligning?? there supposed to when you shut the car off maybe a little rougher this time. Either that or it was the gnome hiding under the hood to keep warm

Agreed. ^^^
Chances are its your clutches disengaging.

Just keep annoying your dealer if it continues to happens.
Thats about all you can do with Mitsubishi and SST warranty work.

Do you park on an incline?
If so, first engage Parking Brake, then shift to Park.

I know this is an old thread but in the owners manule you're ALWAYS supposed to use the parking brake just like you would in a car with an MT and clutch. Put in park, pull up on handbrake, shift to P, release foot brake. As a side note the owners manule also states the pulling the handbrake while moving disengages the center diff. So handbrake power slides are encouraged!!!
