Removable access for Injen cai filter cleaning

Since I was doing this on my car, I thought I'd take a few pics along the way. As you know to install the Injen cai requires you remove the front bumper. Now to clean the filter you either have to remove the bumper, or fold in the fender well, eventually causing it to crack. I decided to make a removable access panel.

these are the parts you'll need. Everything is available at Lowes, or I'm sure whatever hardware store you use.

10 each 1/8" X 1/2" aluminum rivets
16" X 2" X 1/16" aluminum Flatbar (if you can find hard plastic around this size even better).
6 each push-in nylon rivets 1/2"

jack up the car, and remove the left front wheel.

Mark a line with tape about 1" above the top vent holes of the forward part of your fender well (you know, where the filter is at).

With a razor knife, saw, or some kind of cutting device. Cut along that line. Be careful not to cut to deep and cut through your filter, or hose. Also don't cut into your fender. Then remove all the existing fasteners holding that are holding the access panel in.

cut the aluminum flatbar into pieces.
1 pc. 5.5"
1 pc. 4"
2 pcs. 2"
then rivet them in place as shown.

on the back side of the removed plastic piece you'll need to cut away all of the raised areas this will prevent the flatbar from laying flat. You might need to test fit a few times to make sure every thing sits flat.

reinstall the the panel using the existing fasteners. drill a small pilot hole in 5 places where the nylon push-in rivets will go. You'll need to drill through the plastic and the aluminum backing strips(the aluminum flatbar). now remove the plastic panel.
the pilot holes on the plastic panel will now need to be drilled out to 31/64".
the pilots holes on the backing strip will need to be drilled out to 3/8".

now reinstall the plastic panel using the existing fasteners, and the push-in rivets. now you're done. By the way this would have been a great time to clean the filter.

And check it good after driving with it in the rain. I had one on the dyno that was dirty (if you held it up to the light you could see darkness on half of it even though it appeared clean on the outside) and it was robbing 10 hp. It is a small filter because it is so tight down there so its flow gets reduced pretty quick when it gets dirty.

I see you have this intake and that you also got an exhaust installed on another thread. You need a tune ASAP. Borrow or steal a 2.0 tactrix cable and run some WOT logs before you do any serious throttle mashing.

Do you think it would make sense to change the filter to a K&N filter? That way one could really clean it?

Also, I do have exhaust, and am tuned. Thanks for the warning, I've heard this intake does crazy things with the afr's. Things that cause motors to go boom in the night.

I just got a tune today for this intake it seems that it did mess with afrs but my tuner was saying it would allow more with the cam angle. I know by the time it was done it seemed the intake helped spool up by 500 rpms.

Pretty Nifty! Excellent Mod for CAI! I dont have CAI on my RA, dont plan to put one in. I got a K&N Drop-in filter which is good enough for me.

I have CAI on my 00 Civic, I have two filters one spare & one on the Civic.
Best Idea for CAI while you're cleaning & drying one the other one could be on the car & dont have to wait for cleaning & drying of the filter.
