The most power will be had from raising the boost with a tune. But most people will start assembling a few parts before getting a tune. RalliArts do not run super rich stock like the EVOs do. Many intakes can lean things out so just about any intake upgrade will require a retune because of the potential increase in knock. Also with the stock turbo being so horribly small, the stock intake is _not_ holding anything back. There is no upgraded intake on my mod list. Add an aftermarket panel filter if you must.

Stock - 210-220 WHP (Dynojet-Dynapack Numbers)

Stage One - 220-230 WHP
Basic upgrade parts:
Used EVO X intercooler and piping. – The larger intercooler helps better deal with the stock little turbo pumping all the hot air from higher boost once you raise the boost pressure. The X piping isn’t as important as the X intercooler, it just depends on what price you can get for along with the X intercooler. Figure between $150 and $300 for the used X intercooler. Maybe another $100 for used stock piping. If you are headed for maximum power and are not worried about the clutches going out, get aftermarket EVO X intercooler and piping.

Axle-back exhaust system - The stock DP, cat and exhaust piping can more than deal with anything that the stock baby RalliArt turbo can throw at them. Freeing up the airflow through the muffler does help. Replacing the muffler in the rear does just that. RRE Axle Back Muffler $350. If you are headed for a turbo upgrade later, get a full 3” catback system.

BOV - The stock plastic BOV leaks a little. Only about 2 psi but that is enough to lose about 10 WHP on a tuned RalliArt. Swap it out to the stock EVO X (or EVO IX) BOV. It does not look cute but it is a direct bolt on. Aftermarket BOVs can cause headaches with airflow error codes. New ones are $170 to used ones for as low as $50.

Stage Two – 250-270 WHP
Tuning:
To get the most out of what you have so far you need tuning. Ideally it would be tuned by a Mitsubishi specialist on a dyno using Open ECU Flash. Tuning will re-work the air fuel ratio, ignition timing, MIVEC maps, boost, airflow and torque limit tables along with boost and RPM limits. If you brave and have some hardcore EVO friends with a Tactrix cable, you can go at it alone. Various on-line forums have some great support. Professional dyno tuning runs ~$400

Stage Three – 320+ WHP
Turbo Upgrade:
Stock Turbo and Exhaust Manifold from the EVO X. With the above stages the stock turbo is tapped out. Of course the EVO X turbo parts are available from the dealer. But at list prices of over $3,000 for all the necessary parts, it isn’t a great value. The parts can all be rounded up used for about $1,200 on a good day. Installation is no fun with the turbo on the back side of the motor. Retail for the labor to swap the turbo is about $700.
