I believe 15K is only a top off...fluids are changed ummmm 50K or 60K? Not sure..

Owners manual says tranny/acd/rear diff are to be flushed at 30k. As ZeRep85 said, top off at 15k if needed.
Just curious what kind of tranny or ACD fluids are yal using???

The tranny fluid.... ouch. I'll get to that.
The Rear Differential
That would get a 75/90w hypoid oil with a LSD additive in it. We prefer Redline 75/90w Gear Oil. Redline Heavy Shockproof can be used, but it needs a LSD additive. We would do that on a track car.
The Transfer Case
Also needs a heavy hypoid gear oil. But does not need the LSD additive. For this we use Redline Heavyweight Shockproof. This gives the maximum protection.
ACD Fluid
It really does not get used/abused much. It is pretty much ATF. It gets pumped as hydraulic fluid to clamp down the clutch packs in the ACD control mechanism. That is a 100,000 mile kind of thing to worry about.
Center Differential Fluid
There isnt any to speak of. Sounds weird but the center diff lives inside the _transmission_ and gets the same fluid as the tranny does.
Front Differential Fluid
There isnt any to speak of. Sounds weird but the center diff lives inside the _transfercase_ and gets the same fluid as the tranny does.
Transmission Fluid
Expensive expensive expensive. This is million dollar Diaqueen SSTF part number C0002610 that sells for $120ish a gallon. You have to buy two gallons of the silly stuff. I dont know of a working aftermarket substitute. South Side Performance may have something available. Not something you want to change lightly. First it is a pain to drain it all from 3 different places. Then you have to pump it in from the top trying not to spill a drop. When I put on my tranny coolers I had to add a 1/2 gallon to top it off. I about cried.

Lol Mike, Ouch indeed...
When do you change TC-SST Tranny Fluid?
Diaqueen SSTF part number C0002610 $120 a gallon x 2. Got it.
Front & Center Diff Fluid = uses Tranny fluid. Got it.
When do you change rear diff oil?
-Redline 75/90w Gear Oil Heavy Hypoid Shockproof with LSD additive. Got it.
When do you change Transfer Case Oil?
-Redline Heavyweight Shockproof? same as above w/o LSD addictive??
ACD Fluid is ATF? 100k service... got it.
I got 21k+ miles now. so I got to save & spend 240$ on Diaqueen SSTF to keep my car running right???
AWD is such a pain to maintain...

The 2010 has only two drain plugs

So its different kinda???...Any pics? Good to see you posting Bryan...:)
Whats this rinse & repeat procedure when changing SST fluid?
Is this for real??? You gotta spend more money on extra SSTF & keep rinse & repeat??? wtf?!
Maybe someone with more info/knowledge than I can chime-in...
I dont want to throw away money I dont have...

This is the actual instructions from the manual:
ON-VEHICLE SERVICE
TRANSMISSION OIL LEVEL CHECK
1.After cleaning the outer surface of transaxle, visually check that there is no oil oozing or oil leaking from the transaxle.
2.If an oil oozing or leaking is present, replace the transaxle assembly.
TRANSMISSION OIL CHANGE
1.Remove the engine compartment under cover front B assembly. (Refer to GROUP 51 − Under Cover P.51-16.)
2.Remove the oil drain plug to drain the oil.
NOTE:
Because the oil in the oil cooler and oil filter cannot be drained, the amount of drained oil will be approximately 5.5 dm3.
3.Tighten the oil drain plug to the specified torque.
Tightening torque: 25 N⋅m (19 ft-lb)
4.Remove the air cleaner element, air cleaner intake duct, and air cleaner body. (Refer to GROUP 15 − Air Cleaner P.15-10.)
5.Remove the oil filler plug, then fill the oil.
Brand name: Mitsubishi genuine Dia-Queen SSTF-I
Filling amount: Approximately 5.5 dm3 (approximately 5.8 quarts)
6.Tighten the oil filler plug to the specified torque.
Tightening torque: 25 N⋅m (19 ft-lb)
http://roadraceengineering.com/evox/tech/sst-fillanddrain.jpg
7.Install the air cleaner element, air cleaner intake duct, and air cleaner body. (Refer to GROUP 15 − Air Cleaner P.15-10.)
8.Start the engine, then let it idle for 1 to 2 minutes.
9.Move the shift lever to every position, and then move it to the P or N range.
10.Stop the engine, then perform Steps 2 to 5 again.
11.Check the oil level and oil fouling. (Refer to P.22C-328.) If fouling is found, repeat Steps 2 to 5 until the fouling is eliminated.
12.Install the engine compartment under cover front B assembly. (Refer to GROUP 51 − Under Cover P.51-16.)
Maybe the guy that wrote the manual has a brother-in-law that works for the company that makes the oil ;-)

The rinse-repeat is just that MMSA has you spend another extra $300 in fluid just to be sure you get all the nooks and crannys cleaned out :-) They are just thinking about _you_. It is all about YOU, the Customer @ MMSA :-)

:D Yeah I should rinse & repeat on my next engine oil change too for 4b11.
Where did I put that MEGA 50 gal Mobile1? :D
ok but seriously... what about making a filter to catch fouling? to re-use the fluid.

But once it's in, it's in, no? I'm more curious about the benies of doing it now, vs. later.

According to the Instruction it is not once its in, its in. You rinse & repeat.

Well, sure.
This wasn't a bad idea. "ok but seriously... what about making a filter to catch fouling? to re-use the fluid."
Why I was curious if doing it now would be any better than later. I do plan on racing Solo next year.
Also. Do this while the tranny is still warm or..?
Thanks,
GAb
per manual severe driving require/recommended @ every 30k/ SSTF should be changed. for normal driving its every 60k but by definition of severe driving is stop & go, driving in traffic. lol.

how often do you change this fluids?

The Canadian 'severe' service schedule puts the fluid changes at 30 months or 48,000kms (30,000 miles).

Other than the AYC, the RA has the same system as the X. Here are a few helpful diagrams on fluid changes, just remember RA rear diff just takes gear oil and has no AYC.
Never need to change "Hydraulic Unit" fluid also called rear ACD pump fluid unless you change the lines or remove the T-Case. It's alot easier to bleed the RA system than it is on the X, but general consensus among Evo owners is to leave it be, make sure it's within the reservoir's min/max.

I just finished this job a few hours ago, and it was so worth doing. There were loads of metallic junk clinging to the magnetic drain plugs, and plenty of it still floating in the oil.
I bought conventional gear oil because I knew doing this job a second time would be so worth it to get more of the break in garbage out.
I bought a gallon of Valvoline 80w90 LS for about $24.
EDIT: I only had 9700 miles on the car at the time of fluid change.

Yes, you're right. Remove & Drain all three plugs. The pic instruction is wrong.
Thank you for your input/correction.

ACD pump fluid might be considered a 100,000 miles thing, but I still want to change it. Where can I drain it out. I wish to put full synthetic ATF in its place.
On evom.net where are people in Canada that suspect high cold viscosity had led to the death of their ACD pump. They paid $2000 Canadian to replace it.
I plan on using Amsoil or Royal Purple.

I wouldn't do it yet, its not worth the hassle.
You have to have pay the dealer or someone with a MUT3 tool a bajillion dollars to bleed the system afterwards, or else you'll have a more serious problem than if you had just left it alone. ;)
If you really want to though, here is a link on how to.....
Shhhh, it's a secret. (http://www.evoxforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51452)

There is a ECU update for cold weather function of the ACD. I had this done at the dealer and changed the fluid at the 3 year mark. I'm in Canada and thus far I haven't had an issue at -15C.
