I have signed up awhile ago but never did intro so here I am.
My name is Mike
Use to move around a lot...
I drive a 2009 Lancer Ralliart daily. Factory Nav. with 40GB HDD.
Im glad Mitsu gave 09 Lancer Ralliart AWD+Turbo.

I used to drive 1985 Honda Prelude used with salvage title that I had to stick a screwdriver to start the car. lol. Worked hard & Saved enough money & I bought 2000 Honda Civic Coupe NEW with 14miles. D16 motor died @ 150,000 miles & did K20 motor swap so I called it EK20 (no A/C & no P/S) as a daily.. (200,000 miles plus) Axles are shot now so its down.. til I have money to get everything fixed...

Now Im in a 09 Ralliart as daily (with A/C & with P/S) & what a difference.

After having & babied it for about 3 months,
I took my Ralliart to Auto X @ Infineon Raceway. I bought a helmet & burned some tires for a first time. I did Slalom, Hairpin, 180 degree turn, sharp lefts & rights. Did pretty good, track workers told me to slow down. lol.

I took it for AAS Autox @ Great America. Did 50 sec. lap best time.
Also Sacramento Raceway Park for Drag Race. Did 13.4sec@101mph 1/4mile.
More details.. Here
(http://clubralliart.com/showthread.php?t=675&page=6)
The more I drive it the more I love it AWD+Turbo = LOVE.
35k miles & counting...

Im more into driving cars than fixing them. But I guess I got learn both to be a better driver.

Nice 1/4 time. How Power did Gst get you up to?

If I recall correctly, Bryan@GST got my Ralliart to 223-230whp 240-250wtq
it was 196-202whp before tune stock base dyno pulls. I misplaced my dyno sheet. I will update to correct output once I find it. I think he added boost pill but Im not sure.
Thanks Tuqwik4u.

Yes four tires for 60$ & got em mounted balanced from a friend for 50$. Now im broke again spending 110$ pick up the GSR rims on monthly payment $100 mo. for 4months & yes I got them for 400$.

I'm not looking to do much with my car. Check out the wishlist in my sig. Thats about as much as I'd do... at the most! I probably will never even do some of them.

I mainly just want it to look nice and be slightly quicker (my main power goal is just to reduce the turbo lag without sacrificing top end)

Cool team picture :)

I wish there was a team scene over in Tampa, FL. Everytime I go to a car gathering around here it seems like everyone is shady/up to no good with their jdmhellatight Civics. Maybe I've just been going to the wrong ones.

Kept track of my gas mileage for 2tanks.
I was able to get 240miles per tank. (Freeway & Street, regular & spirited driving)
Its about 12gal per fill up so.
240 / 12 = 20 mpg

Do you find this to be a lot different then what the mpg readings the car has built in?

Do you find this to be a lot different then what the mpg readings the car has built in?

With my current mods. MPG reading is accurate. MPG reading would fluctuate because of stop & go.. etc. but before fill up on my MMCS Info shows how many miles I went from previous fill. So once I open the gas cap MMCS knows to reset the miles that I traveled for that tank. Pretty nifty. Also a touch button "Refuel" to manually reset driven miles for that tank.

Very difficult, with the temperature we have here. It gets cold & hot.
Dont recommend installing it on anything below 80 degree.

Heat gun is your friend but use it wisely or you'll just burn thru it or you will stretch the pattern/weave.
I dont recommend super heavy duty heat gun you just want enough heat to make it soft enough for curves.

In the hot day it mold to anything you apply it to.
On cold days it stiffen up & hard to work with.

I had some WORKS SS lines for awhile now & decided to install em today.
Jack the car up & Took all the wheels off. Had all four on jack stands.
Pump out all the brake fluids. Removed the rear lines & attempted to install the rear WORKS SS lines. They were too short. FML.

Reinstalled the stock line back on. Top it off with Motul 600 Dot 4.
Flush/Bled the brakes. But what a waste of brake fluid & time.

Im very disappointed. The package states its made for Lancer Ralliart but it doesnt fit...I screwed the back screw first since it doesnt rotate freely.
Routed the line the same way stock one was.
Now it doesnt reach to the front of the rear line where the retainer clip is.

I have done enough brake work & SS lines to know it just too short I say about an inch & a half to two inches too short. It create a pinch which I dont want.

Wrong measurement? Wrong label on package?

I will take some picture & post em later. Im very disappointed with this.

I thought about buying the tinting spray but the spray cost more than the lens. :(
Maybe you can spray inside the lens instead of outside? I may give it a try.

Over here up north, they pull people over any excuse possible.

So keeping the car legal is very important.

I don't like spray tints because they tend to look hazy.

I did my tailights and reflectors with regular tint, took some patience cuz you have to stretch it over the lights but I think it came out nice.

I thought about buying the tinting spray but the spray cost more than the lens. :(
Maybe you can spray inside the lens instead of outside? I may give it a try.
.

Yeah it tends to be a lil pricey but it goes a long way. You could literally spray your tail lights, third brake light, rear bumper reflectors, and maybe even your fogs depending on how dark you wanted to go.

I don't like spray tints because they tend to look hazy.

It all depends on how it's applied. I always spray a few lights coats and gradually increase the number of coats I'm laying down to reach the shade I want. A plus to spray tint over regular tint is that you don't have to concern yourself with overlapping lines, bubbling, fading, peeling, etc.

I've used both methods and I prefer the spray tint; besides it's much easier to apply. I do remove the lights from the vehicle when using both methods.

What percentage of tint did you use? Looks perfect!

35% on the taillights and 20% on the reflectors. Bought the tint from this ebay store: http://stores.ebay.com/Extreme-Vinyls/Mitsubishi-/_i.html?_fsub=14670284&_sid=79955125&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322

You specify the % tint you want in the order comments.

last group warn us of traffic following us.

"Shortly after the summit, one can turn to the north and proceed on Old Mines Road, which ends at Livermore. There are ranches, farms, several cattle gates along this road, and even a (paved) ford through a shallow stream. Traffic is light to nonexistent."

I need get my civic back up & running so I can work on the molding on my own RA.
Since the design of concept RA widebody, Im leaning towards doing everything at the same time.
Which require more time & money, both of which is very limited right now, with the holidays coming up.
Sometimes I have to sacrifice my happiness for happiness of others. ;)

Currently, as is the vents are good to go but It would have to be molded on to it
or
3m with screws from inside the front bumper to secure it on to it.
Of course you would have to cut your front bumper.
Molded on would look best but 3m & screws are reversible somewhat.

I would have to do a key mold so it can be mass produced,
however, I was told you cant keep using the same key mold
as it looses its quality with each run.
(Which explains why mass produced parts are not quite perfect fit or has imperfections from molding)

My friend had invested on two giant rolls. He was trying to get rid of it with new born coming.

I had bought a bunch for the roof (had left overs 2x2)
I had bought another 4x4 for the front grill (had left overs 1x1)
Did some interior parts & found out I dont have enough to do the interior & ran out of budget after my case.
Pulled the plug on other small DiNoc projects,
so I have enough left over for the rear license plate area.

Instead of doing more interior, I used the scraps. :D

also it will return as time pass because factory coat is very light layer.

There were many thin residue pieces left over from the mold.
I took a blade & shaved off the excess pieces.

After that, I look it over & at the rear end edge where it sit under the drip mold on the roof it had a small ramp that I know wouldnt clear.
So I took my same blade & cut the ramp off, round the edge.

I was trying to rush things. 2.75$ out the pocket. sigh* Good thing I had one good spare drip mold clip from when I did my Dinoc Roof. I had to order 14 since I broke every damn clip last time.

So I test fit the damn thing & it is warped in both end. FML.
So time to heat it up & re-warp it. I hope I dont end up with mangled VG in the end. Thinking about taping 4 screws 2 on each side in the drip mold channels. Got to make sure I dont have a leak later. Sigh* nothing is ever right. I hate buying things & still have to modify it.

:D I ran out of DiNoc & DiNoc Budget. It would be a one of my greatest challenge to DiNoc a VG.
Sadly, it is not going to be DiNoc'd. Im trying to paint it to match factory GG,
I may call upon the body shop that repaired my fender & front bumper.

I must get this! :) Looks great. Are the gaps on the end because of the wrap?

Im almost sure all mold coming from that key mold will have warped by the time it gets to you,
you may have to do the same re-warping carefully with a heat gun.
The problem is our roof have slight crown to it not flat, Going on day three.
Still need slight heat gun action.
The reason why it take so long is you dont want it to get mangled by the heat so you go as slow as possible
& never have the heat gun in one spot too long or it is bye bye whatever shape it was before.

The fenders are still on :) I actually had a closer look at them yesterday and there is no sign of wear or the adhesive giving up. (It's been through all sort of weather/temperatures already too).

Functionality.... not so much. Cold weather hit us pretty quick so I didn't have a chance to start that project. Weather is another reason why i'm holding off on the vortex.

I got VG to sit better but the front part of the vg has a lip which hinder the 3m useless as the lip has more depth than the 3m. (I will have to grind that down). After that it will be out for paint.

Fender vents are a PITA to measure & to make all opening symmetrical (Im using digital caliper to measure.) Im up to 6mm slit now was about 2mm opening before. I will take pics once I get home if there are enough sunlight outside. After all the grinding & sanding to make it smooth, the fender vents will also be out for paint.

I may buy another fender to cut & paint. Im still deciding with limited budget.

Much bigger vents now at 6mm. Took part of the clear off but I can fix that. After lil' bit of sanding & paint you wont even see it.

On to the 2nd vent....

The VG lip edge under the front part.
http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/2874/dscn2293my.jpg

From front view (half that depth got to be sanded/cut down)
http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/4162/dscn2295.jpg
3m wont touch the roof as long as that edge is in the way.

3m they supplied was a joke it wont adhere to anything.
I got my own 3m from work that adhere much better.
Still wont adhere to DiNoc Vinyl. May have to look into vinyl glue.

I sit & complain for 5mins (maximum length of time a men can bitch without sounding like a bitch/diva/princess):D
Thats how our work environment is. You get 5min to bitch & then (whip crack)* back to work.

Thanks Exyia my point of DIY is to inspire others.

The question is How far are you willing to go with your Ralliart :)

MTZL
12-28-2011, 11:11 AM
As far as smog limitation & daily drive-ability. Biggest limitation is budget.
Making it look good doesnt hurt. Unless I burn, cut, or stab myself. Pain is only temporary. Mod last longer than pain, most of em anyways. :)

I did that with my civic & it was a hustle to smog & I ended up paying 10x the cost of smog. Not doing that again.
Unless I get another car or get my civic to comply to take over daily duties, my ra will have to comply to the dd. The rest is based on limitation of budget for a given project.

I decided not to pay an arm & a leg to paint the stupid Vortex Generator.
Since it has been sitting around it lost it shape again. FML.

I laid it on the roof & heat it slowly for two hours... :frown: Getting old sux...
I had the rear passenger door opened so I can climb & hang on like a monkey to heat the VG on the roof. I get one side to sit the other side lift. I heated the eff out of it & it started smoking the drip mold rubber part. lol.
So I had to back the heat off & do it slower.
Pull, stretch, warp, heat & more heat.

Finally glad it is done, what a PITA. I just hope it doesnt fly away or get stolen one day.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=160695981244#ht_4608wt_1202

I really love the way your Vortex looks on GG and it makes me want to get this one and put it on mine. I might just order it now and wait till it gets cooler to apply it.

Do you know the required temperature for applying this with 3M tape? (Best case scenario)

MTZL
02-06-2012, 12:43 PM
I didnt have temperature gauge kinda went off putting my hand between the VG & heat gun to feel, when it can burn my hands is good enough temp.. :D

I would say 100+ degree. But you dont want it too close or too much heat, heat can warp your VG.

the one you're looking at, you shouldn't have any problem like I had. It just sit on top & doesnt go into drip mold channel.

My advice, make sure you clean your roof thoroughly. Use thick/wide 3m more contact surface made for heavy duty outdoor.

Test fit & have someone help you lay it down, peel only partial of the 3m backing & have a piece of backing sticking out so when you align it you dont lay down all the sticky part of 3m, that way you may do any adjustment if necessary.

Im going to use some purple stuff they use at the bodyshop with fiberglass particle in em. Kinda like Bondo except it has structural strength.

I would also need to make a flat curve that follow the curve I measured & it will be used to attach the Diffuser to the bumper.

I may end up buying some molding clay to get a existing mini diffuser mold so I can go over it with my diffuser.

xwxspawnxwx
02-07-2012, 02:00 PM

Can Not wait to see this farther down the road.

MTZL
02-07-2012, 02:04 PM
I need to make it follow the body line more..
I need to make it longer & higher...

If I mold the fins to my rear bumper I have to paint it.
If I made it so I can 3m or screw it on it will be fine.

Still in progress... This is just a rough template so I got long way to go.

Also got to take in consideration of ground clearance so the Diffuser are not going scrape the ground at the driveways.

MTZL
03-13-2012, 12:16 PM
Yes, I have. Ran out of imageshack pics limit. I will take more pics later to post.

I scan it & am now tracing the template in adobe illustrator. Had to learn how to use adobe illustrator. I know my way around photoshop but illustrator works differently.
Co-worker broke my molded template after scanning it, saying this is pretty solid trying to bend it & snap. broke it in two.
Luckily the part was already scanned in.

Im going to double check my measurements & off to the laser to cut some plastic pieces.
Oh the smell is horrid. I die from smelling the laser burned plastic.

this will take some time trying to work out scheduling conflicts.

Save more money to get some purple stuff for molding the fins to the rear bumper & paint. The vicious cycle.

haha. No, I need to produce it before I can sell it. No customer as of yet.
I think you're the only one interested as much as I am.

I need to make afew more adjustments with the rear diffuser,
Adding one more fin to the outside corners of the rear bumper.

Wish I had big sheet of aluminum & welder for under panel to make the rear diffuser work better.

There really isn't much option for our RAs to adjust our diffuser unless you get a whole new evo x rear bumper with adjustments.

Either way keep up the good works and so far it looks great.

Dang, crazy. Yeah I have my BA in IT, but I'm not in the IT work field. I did helpdesk for 2 years while I was in college and it was so boring... People couldn't print (cause they'd kick their cable behind their tower), or blue screens, etc... lol

I'm a photographer and editor for a magazine... My salary isn't that good, but I love what I do. My dad keeps telling me to pursue a career I have my degree in, and that I'd be making more money blah blah. I love what I do, but I wouldn't mind a higher salary either :P

Need a vacation to visit RRE... Been busy with the new job.

Got some universal fender flares yesterday. I will post some pics later when I get home from work. Idk if I will ever use the fender flares, bought them to test fit & mock up.

Debating on getting some 18x 11 track wheels to go together with Fender flares, wheels are expensive & tires cost more than wheels. :(

Once Fender Flares goes on there is no turning back, I am hesitant to pull the trigger. Mostly due to cost factor. Decisions, Decisions...

Inputs & opinions are welcome on 18 x 11 & fender flares...

Or

No fender flares & 18 x 9 or 18 x 9.5?

See thats my whole point,

-18 x 11 will go along with them.
-Paint Fender Flares to match body color.
-stock fenders will be cut... :(
-measure clearance to determine offset.
-longer wheel studs.
-wider 295 tires, more contact patch, more expenses for rubber.
-might kill the stock gears lsd differential etc.
-no going back..
-the whole setup will be costly.
-custom wheel wells.

My first impression of the whiteline 26mm front and 24mm rear sway bars...
Took a few on-ramp to freeway & exits.

25mph narrow right turn to left s-turn and final right turn, I took first right at 55mph and feels stable enough to Scandinavian flick a left turn 56mph and the right turn well I had to full stop before a right turn :p

referenced the owner manual just to find out it is "brake warning light."
I wasnt using brake  maybe traction control/brake is having issues but i dont have any braking issues when i do brake. thoughts?

Maybe I will go for 55 mph entry. At 50 mph tires almost loses traction at the loop entry onto the freeway.

I noticed the brake warning light only comes on when I dive into the freeway entrance loop. Which means only during when my RA nose is pointing down.
Brake warning doesnt come on during flat road 50 mph turns.
Brake Warning comes on consistently 50 mph, did 55 mph beside the warning I dont feel anything wrong...

Templates for the fins are done & just need to produce them.

However, short of perfection doesnt satisfy me.

Reverse light issue found. New cars & their error free BS.

I had help from someone with more experience, kept switching bulbs until it works. Also had to keep switching gear back to reverse to try again otherwise no current/power to the socket.
Having someone help you is better than trying to not reverse the car on yourself while working on the reverse light.

Great way to spend my lunch break. LED reverse light issue solved...

So I thought it was solved...

LED Reverse light doesnt have enough resistance it will only light up for a couple of seconds & no lights. Need error free LED with built in resistor.

Now onto the brake warning... before autox this sunday on bald tires. :)

Recent impulse purchase
Borla Catback Exhaust & Dunlop Direzza D101 245/40/18

Borla is louder than I had expected 5" tips doesnt help either. It has the low rumble at idle & low rpm. 2,500rpm to 3,500rpm is the loudest.
Upper 4,000rpm exhaust sound mellows out. Lifting off the throttle after heavy acceleration make exhaust pop.
So far around town I brought my daily driving rpm down to 2,500rpm shift point. Doing better on mpg with lower shift point.
Either pussy-foot the throttle or WOT, anything in between is just obnoxiously loud. ha!

D101 Tires are bouncy. Maybe great idea for freeway mpg. Better shoulder better sidewall. Response is good & grip is so-so. Hard braking can make the tires skid/chirp.

Waiting for backorder Whiteline Front endlinks... 60 days wait. :(

-2lbs rubber mallet to remove the seized stock rotors.
-Brake dust shield need to be cut past the knuckles.
-5/8 drill bit to bore out the knuckles to accept bolt to secure the calipers. (I did 80 lbs torque spec.)
-Bleed the brakes
-Bed in the pads to the rotors.
I did freeway exit braking to bed the pads from 60mph to 30mph. These brakes are doing their jobs now. 60mph to 30mph in a sec isnt bad at all.
