Ummmm... you would have to ask AMS that question. On our dyno here we dont get 280 whp with tuning and a bunch of parts. Or maybe they are talking crank hp? That is a lot of power for a stock turbo.

You need the additional coolers if you will be doing mad canyon runs, autocrossing or track days. What you got now should be fine for freeway flying and occasional drag racing with appropriate cooldown between runs. Here in So Cal we get 3-4 drag runs all day. Lines are long and nothign much heats up.

A Mitsubishi dealership has proven over the last 20 years to be the most unreliable place for information about a performance Mitsubishi vehicle. Ask them to show you your engine oil cooler. They will probably show you the transmission cooler on the driver's side :-)

A stock RalliArt is about 210-215 WHP on our dyno.

To get to about 260 WHP you would do:
    Used EVO X FMIC $300
    Install FMIC $200
RRE Axle Back exhaust $350 –or- RRE Modified Stock Muffler $140
    EVO X BOV $180 Installed
Drop-in Cosworth air filter element $43
    Tune with boost pill $400

The stock turbo is super super small. At 260-270 WHP the turbo is maxed out and other higher flowing won’t make much power, if any at all. You can upgrade intercooler piping, exhaust piping, cats, DPs and more and it won’t make noticeable power. The turbo wheels are the limiting factor at this point.

To get to 300 WHP you would need in addition to the above:

Used EVO X turbo, exhaust manifold and all install parts (usually a mix of used and new parts). $1000-$2500
    List of parts: http://clubralliart.com/showthread.php?t=351
    Install Turbo Assy $600

    Optional:
    HFC or test pipe $150-$230
    Short down pipe $190
    Full cat back exhaust $550-$900
Installation for the above exhaust parts $80

If the EVO X turbo is done all at once with the first stuff, it would get tuned at the same time. If the first group was done earlier and the car was already tuned, then add $250 for a retune with the EVO X Turbo.

With this higher modded EVO X level of power, you should also install an engine oil cooler (your car has no oil cooler now) and also upgrade the transmission coolers. It is about $550 for an engine oil cooler installed. $690 for upgraded transmission coolers installed including the additional SST fluid.

That first level (stock turbo, 260 whp) is a nice bang for the buck fun level. I suggest you try the car there and see how you like it. The next level with the X turbo is less reversible if you have issues with the transmission.
