Loud Scraping Sound

Occasionally just after I start my car, there is a loud, quick scraping sound that really does not sound good. It's done this for months (maybe a year), and I haven't had any other trouble with this car.

I'll try to post a recording of the sound, but it may take a while to get. Anyone have any ideas?

Google "lancer ralliart sst chattering". If the noise goes away when you start driving then this is it.

It's a one-off sound: it's a quick scrape and it's done, so it's not that.

If it is a scrape and then squeak, it might be your tensioner. I would take a quick peek at your serpentine belt, as well, to make sure that the OEM plastic pulleys haven't damaged the belt, as there was just a recall issued for that very problem.

I think I know exactly what you are talking about. Watch this video at the :30 second mark when I first start up and you will hear it:

Mine has done that every once in awhile on start up since I bought it. This was the first start up after it was inspected and worked on by Jack's and it still does it occasionally to this day.

I just assumed it was expected behavior but if it isn't... I'd like some more info too.

That's exactly it! As long as it isn't a sign of a problem or causing damage, I'm good. Thanks for posting that.
