odd smell

I looked around and couldn't find anyone with similar problem but have any of you guys ever had a smell that's a mix between fuel and nail polish? I was cruising in my car earlier and all of a sudden it started getting a smell of fuel and slight nail polish that's the way i would describe the smell and it comes and go. Today is the first time I have ever had anything like that. The closest thing to this i have ever had was my 04 sti and id turn the ac and would get a strong fuel smell.

Besides, brake and engine smells, Usually only get the smell from a test pipe.. I'd start sniffing around if you're stock, strange smells aren't good..

Exactly why i am confused. only thing i have is a cobb tuner stage 1 and a borla cat back i forgot to mention i started to get the smell when i shifted up and my car backfired.

Well when the muffs are new, theyll give off a foul smell for a few miles. Maybe 500-/+ i think, its usually the welds heating up..

If its from a backfire, no idea. that would be a totally diff issue. If thats it, start poking around.

I've had the same problem and apparantly it's fuel and the charcoal canister.I work in the desert and live in the mountains so there is the elevation/heat thing goin on.I posted on the Evo X forum and that was sorta the answer I got,it only happens with the heat.

Interesting....
The charcoal canister is supposed to go into "Purge mode" and vent the excess fuel vapor pressure into the intake manifold of the engine.

If it didn't do that, it should have turned on the check engine light and set an error code.
