I wished I could've recorded the conversation. Even if I did it may not be admissible.
I was wrong about timing chain being part of 60k service...
it is the drive belt that is part of 60k service.

They are sneaky...I am not an auditor I dont have the resources or the privilege to document it and have it stick.

I do want the new revised timing chain.

It may be sensors gone bad.
Maybe tensioner.

I cant believe I am going back to them tomorrow. I will post my experience. Waste more time with them playing along.

I watch them like a hawk and they keep telling me to go wait in visitor lounge.

I already called other dealership around the area in case, Capitol Mitsu kick me off the property. lol. SM doesnt like me very much, I do have a way of pissing people off.

Hey Trail Brake, I have mitsubishi extended warranty which was signed off after an inspection of the car (3 years old).

As far as I can tell the only part actually required to be replaced with timing chain is the oil chain. So I am still confused and not getting any answers form the dealership as to why it is required to replace both VCT phasers, oil pump sprocket and timing chain tensioner. I have been researching the issue but can not find much info on the matter and would love to now if the VCT phasers are easily damaged as I have found no other cases were they have needed to be replaced.

Has anyone ever heard of needing to replace both VCT phasers, oil pump sprocket and timing chain tensioner from similar issues as ours or is there a member on here who might have some knowledge on the said parts.

If this is a Mitsu warranty, does the paperwork specify the inspection that is required to be covered under that policy? Also, in the fine print, is there anything related to items that are not covered? Just trying to give you something to fight them on.

In general, whenever I have replaced a timing belt on an engine, I also either rebuilt or replaced the tensioner as a 'while your in there' type of thing. As for our engine in specific, and it using a chain instead of a belt, hopefully someone can speak to the value of replacing the tensioner at the same time.

As well, as for the VCT phasers and oil pump sprocket, I would defer to those who have replaced their timing chains for their opinion as if they are recommended items to replace as well.

Since you are in Australia, check out clubcj. There are a few threads on timing chains. One of them is:

http://clubcj.net/viewtopic.php?t=10879

At least your dealer didn't just reset the code, charge you $150 and send you on your way only to have the code reappear.

In terms of poor servicing record, see my post half way down the page at:
