Guys, this isn't about cams. Create a new thread for that. This is about the timing chain, stick to the topic.

We have also changed a few chains and guides on motors that were apart at over 30k for upgrade or other repair reasons. As in the motor is all apart and might as well do it now that the labor is free so to speak.

Hi Mike,

I know this may be rather subjective as oci consists of many variables, but what general oil change interval would you recommend? I now use Castrol Edge SPT 0w30/German Castrol at 5k mile oci. Only modification being Magnaflow axle back. No track or racing involved, with the occassional spirited drive.

The more time you spend in boost the more blowby you will get past the rings. The more blowby you get past the rings, the more carbon you get in the oil. The more carbon you get in the oil the more carbon eats the timing chain.

So:

The richer you are and more paranoid you are and how boosty you are, the more you should change your oil. The poorer you are, braver you are and if you only drive your grandma to her glaucoma doctor appointments then the less you can change your oil.

I TRY to do mine every 3500 but with my long commute to work and back my intervals vary from 3300 - 3800

Since the timing chain interval and stretch we know is altered by the oil we use, I seen this little sheet on ForcedPerformance's website the other day and thought I would share it. Not sure if it's been shared before, but it gave me a good idea as to what oils I will be using for my vehicle.

FYI

http://forums.evolutionm.net/09-rall...lue-value.html

There is thread on EvoM stating clearing DTC also clears a timing chain elongation value stored in the memory
