Default SST Filter - Can it be cleaned/reused?

Hi all,

It is my understanding that the SST filter is paper, and as such, not serviceable. Is this correct? From pictures I have seen on-line, it does appear to have a paper core.

I have had the fluid changed, but the shop I'm dealing with insists the filter can be cleaned. The filter has not been changed before, so it no doubt contains debris from the break-in period.

As I have always changed the tranny filter (paper core) with the fluid on other vehicles, it would seem reasonable to do so with this one as well.

Comments?

Thanks.

Is that an additional filter that installs in-line with the factory one, or is it a complete replacement of the factory unit?

so all is done it works great. however it is not direct replacement. what you have to do is pull the old crappy 8 micron paper filter out. then put the tube the filter was in back on. then follow the line down a bit and cut and place the new 40 micron screen filter in line. so not hard by any means, just not a direct replacement.

Thanks for the update.

Doesn't sound like too much work, but it would be nice if a vendor made a reusable replacement that fit within the factory casing so as not to arouse any dealer suspicion.
