Always had mixed feelings about the SST clutch upgrade debate. SSP and now Dodson have uprated clutch paks. I like the idea of avoiding cramming larger clutches into the same area- that is a very logical idea.
The work being done in open source to determine the effects of raising line pressure seem to be the most promising so far. We need to understand more how the tranny works before we commit to the idea that better clutch paks will serve the purpose of transmitting more power and be more reliable. There is the general principle that making the clutches out of the best materials on earth will do very little unless the line pressure is increased.
IMO first line pressure and general SST tuning, then think about clutches. We are close to providing answers, a project down under is showing great promise right now..........
There is the Australian source and our very own SST guru here in the US (think Bay Area), why not donate some money to these guys rather than pay huge amounts for unobtainum clutches?

The point is to replace the steel disks with much more thermally neutral Kevlar. It also makes sense to at the very least increase the surface area of the friction material. Regardless of line pressure, when you increase the power/torque beyond a certain point, you are asking more from the stock friction plates than they were ever designed to give you. I will grant you that at lower power levels this upgrade might not make sense. However, there are those out there running higher power levels who will eventually need upgraded materials.
That being said, I have an appointment scheduled for next month to have my line pressure tweaked.

Let's say this... for someone who drives this car daily and doesn't want huge power upgrade, maybe 300 awhp/awtq goal, and doesn't drive the hell out of the car on a normal basis, would upgrading the clutch packs be necessary? Just refill the transmission with SSP Gold and call it a day?

This isn't for that crowd. At lower power levels, it doesn't make sense to upgrade the clutches.

Gotcha, that's what I figured. I'm part of that crowd so that's why I wanted to ask, lol.

Why isn't this more promoted if somebody has this capability? I would be announcing this EVERYWHERE if I had a true way to do this with no drawbacks.
This is a huge deal. It makes me wonder if this is truly what it is.

The reason being I am not the one who can do this and I don't want to put words in other peoples' mouths.
