Default Looking for old cars

So, I've been on an old car hunt. In the running are pre-1975 to skirt the smog issue...

Datsun 510 - 2 door, preferably SSS bluebird
BMW 2002 - Tii model preferably...
Likely I'll end up with a regular model of one of these 2 as the desired versions are next to impossible to find or cost $$$

Also considering some 80s or 90s cars
Eclipse GSX - 1st gen
Galant VR4 - 6th gen (if I can find one)
AE86
RX7 (FD) - 3rd gen
CRX SiR - 2nd gen

Which of these would you pick?

I guess it all depends on what you want, ultimately. Do you want pure performance? Something you can still drive every day? Something reliable and cheap?

I've always been a fan of the Datsun 510, AE86, and the RX7. A buddy of mine is/was selling his turboed 510 in excellent condition around the 6-7k range. Very nice looking car and it has been very well taken care of. PM if you might be interested in seeing his car

The AE86 is the ultimate drift machine and is starting to make a come back with the younger generation. I've always have had a soft spot for the 86 and I am also planning on building one later down the road. The RX7 is also a beautiful machine that can lend itself to modification, and you gotta love the rotary power as it is a completely different beast. As far as the AE86 is concerned I might know a few people as well

You should also consider the mid to late 90s Subaru Impreza as well as the S14 and S15 Nissan Silvias

Well I have always been a Honda/acura guy till the past year or 2 (when i picked up my 9G Galant) Always loved the CRX for how much modding and engine swaps available and already done. (im new to seriously working on cars so being the first guy to do something is not something im ready for) i generally hate hatchbacks but the CRX body tweaks my interest for some reason. The light body weight is a big plus for gas mileage and track use. Overall i feel like it is versatile for many uses and just like any honda, can take a heavy beating without serious maintenance work needed.

Now im not saying anything bad about any of the others, i dont know much about any other selections you had, but this is just my opinion on what i would do out of the options provided. If i had my way and $$ id choose an oldschool mustang preferably convertible.

Needs to be DD, semi performance oriented, reliable to a point and cheap.

My idea of a DD doesn't have to be cushy leather MBZ. Recaros, no a/c and no radio with a loud engine would be just fine.

Semi performance is relative. A 510 or 2002 r performance oriented of a different era. A crx is leaning towards lightweight and nimble with the ability to have power added. An rx7 or ae86 is drift performance from the factory. I've never had a chance to own any of these and thought I should look into it.

Reliable to me means it starts in the morning and gets me to work. Probably means a stock version of one of these with little to no mods unless done by a reputable tuner.

Cheap? Less than $6k preferrably.

RX7's are pretty cheap cars to maintain and are still highly available.

It's simply a matter of looking. I've found plenty of examples of rusted & non-rusted versions of all of the above...

Well, I must have looked in the wrong spots cus I came up empty. Out of all these I would have thought the RX7 would be an easy one to find.

What about a 240z if you want to get out of smog? (In proposal of the none category)

I like the Rx7 too but I haven't found a good example that's not beat to crap or WAY too much money... at least not in SoCal
