Well I would say its wear and tear from simply living way up north past 50 degrees latitude. Where the winters can see -60 C with the windchill and over plus 30 C in the hot summer. That combined with very little in the way of paved roads other than in town and even the main road going south is always being repaired. You guys should Google Thompson Manitoba where 2010RalliartDM lives. Not to mention the closest Dealership is in Winnipeg, Manitoba about 720 Km or about 8 hours drive each way.
I would phone Waverley Mitsubishi and let them know what you found and what they reccomend you do, also check out what the roadside assistance covers and if it would cover the cost of a tow into Winnipeg otherwise you may do additional damage and they might be less likely to cover under warranty.

Ouch! looks like you ran something over.
if you're still under warranty they should take care of that.
If not clean it to see where it is leaking from.
Hopefully it is just gasket or seal or something cheap (I mean relatively inexpensive).
Transfer case is expensive.
Rear diff is expensive.
Something I wouldnt want to pay out of pocket.

You also have to hope it will survive the drive to the dealership, I believe he said it's a long ways away.
