Default Test pipe or high flow cat?

Alright I don't know if there's a thread on this or not, but I didn't see one so I thought I would start one.

I'm wanting to get rid of my cat and switch to either a test pipe or high flow cat. Any suggestions? I don't want my check engine light on and don't wanna have to have the PCM modified to ignore a faulty B1S2 reading.

ok I will tell you what I think and also let you know how I beat the CEL. I dont believe in test pipes unless its for off road use only like my atvs. But a high flow cat is a great way to incrase flow while still respecting the environment.

Now I got the exhaust shop that made my exhaust to to take my stock cat and cut into the actual casing until the inlet and outlet were 3 inches. Which allowed my o2 sensor to still read from the tricky design of the cat while flowing just a tad bit more cfm (its probly only flowing 50-75 more cfm than the cat is in stock form but its legal, cheap and works). Now wheather or not thats politically correct to everyone I could care less but did it cause my CEL to come on NOPE and it works great with my Cobb tune

I recommend a resonated test pipe. why?

1) With it resonated you don't get that drone sound that will get annoying after time.
2) Higher flow then any pipe that has a cat.
3) compatible with the full TBE exhaust tune from GST
4) You can either a) tune out the O2 sensor CEL or b) buy this http://www.amsperformance.com/cart/A...or-Spacer.html (which i have for sale if you need)

The only reason people get a high flow cat or keep the cat is for legal inspection issues on the road or something else.

Hope that helps.

I have a 200-cell HFC and it's been great with the TBE version of the GST basemap. Keeps the gas smell to a minimum and flows better than the OEM cat, also keeps the exhaust somewhat quiet compared to a test pipe.

I've got the Tsudo resonated test pipe with cel fix. Was $109 shipped, put it in last Sept, never had an issue. No CEL & a noticable gain

my research also indicates that the fumes from cars without cats are a little detrimental to infants. more specifically, pregnant women. the accumulation of compounds in the body easily pass the placental barrier and affect developmental processes. i think i've even seen a study correlating high exposure to exhaust fumes to spina bifida in babies. either way, not good for pregos. go with a HFC at least if you have a woman or kids. otherwise, resonated test pipe with widemouth ams downpipe! (i didnt read to see if you had an X turbo, ams widemouth is only for x turbo).
