Default Need help from Cali residents

So i will be stationed at Travis AFB at the end of the year and i need some advice about getting my car registered when i get there. From what i heard i'm going to have to switch my UICP, intake, and exhaust to stock so i can pass inspection. is there anyway around this? do people have "a guy" they go to? I looked on the CA DMV and i doesnt really say anything about modified cars. TIA

hi

unfortunately you have to pass visual and the test itself if they perform. best bet is to swap out the upper intercooler pipes, intake and maybe the cat. those are the critical ones that need to pass the visual inspection.

the exhaust, if its after the cat, is fine. the intercooler *might* pass but that would depend on the shop.

good luck!

I only have a cat back (cat still stock), SRI, UICP, LICP, and Turbosmart BOV. My intercooler is stock as well. What do you mean if they perform the test? Like, if it doesn't pass the visual inspection and/or have suspicion about the car they do an emissions test or something?

that's correct. some smog stations that suspect modifications might force an emissions test or flat out fail your car.

the more stock looking your car is, the better it is.

since you still have the stock cat you should be fine passing emissions. but they can (and might) fail you on the visual.

if anything, change the SRI, UICP, LICP and bov to be sure. the bov should be fine but in CA, anything before the intake manifold without a CARB sticker is technically illegal.

I'm from the Vacaville area and I've taken my car to the shop with a cat-back and evo UICP, intercooler, LICP, and metal BOV installed. As long as things look OEM you'll be okay. Change your UICP and intake as those I'm sure look far from the silencer box and expanding UICP found on most of our cars. NO CEL too!! Hope that helps
