So I picked the vehicle up today with bad results. The service writer was very rude and didn't even acknowledge me. Told me to get my paperwork signed so that I could be on my way. One of the technicians ended up having to help me out. Anyhow as soon as I turned the corner the check engine light illuminated and all the same symptoms I had before reoccurred. High idle, hard shifts, burning oil smell, and now black smoke exiting the exhaust. I continued to drive home thinking that the light my turn off as it has done before. The vehicle drove so rough that I had to exit the freeway and manage to drive on the streets all the way home.

Once at home I called the dealer and demanded to speak with the service writer that had just got done servicing my vehicle. He ignored two of my calls and never got back to me?! I have a feeling they know the vehicle is a Lemon and don't want to get involved with it any further. What sucks is that they won't warranty the work they just did under warranty. I have no choice but to go back to court. This really blows!

They claimed that they replaced the turbo, but with the issues the vehicle is still having I wonder if they just dicked around for 2 weeks. I also have missing clips that hold some of the parts in place and they also left my gas tank on "E" as usual.

Sounds like when an intercooler hose pops off. You need to find a shop that specializes in your car somehow.

^ Let me clarify by saying that it's not a boost leak related issue. If it was as simple as a boost leak I wouldn't have taken it to the dealership. The turbo was bad so it got replaced. I still have the same issues as before even with the new turbo assy. installed. I have a feeling that it's a IAC issue that hasn't been looked into yet.

How do you know it is not a boost leak?
Did you do a boost leak test to double check?

Just double checking to see if you double check already.

^ Yeah I did the old boost leak check a few weeks ago prior to taking in the vehicle for service. I've also been monitoring my boost pressure via my boost gauge and it's reading normal. I'm going to have to redo the boost leak test after having had the turbo replaced just to be on the safe side. It sucks having to check up on the work of the so called specialists though. Should have been fixed right the first time!

Yeah, Man. Im sry to hear about the issues you had/have to go thru.

One of the reason why I dont take my car to the dealer after I bought mine.
Normally I would even opt for Extended Rip off warranty, after I learn some dealer offer non-factory after market BS dealer extended warranty so when the dealer go out of business so does your warranty.

Plus after witnessing what/who dealer hire as service manager & technicians, I'd steer clear away from them.

Kinda like those bad mechanics you hear about on the news about over charging their customer & doesnt do all the work they say they did.

If I were you, since you live somewhat close to RRE, I would pick MikeW@RRE's Brain.

You can build a boost leak tester yourself... I remember seeing it somewhere on the web.

Found it... here you go...

Since our Turbo is by the firewall it will be PITA to take all the intake system off the get to the turbo.
You would also need an air compressor, bigger the better so you dont have to wait for it to recharge.

Just came across this post while researching the timing chain stretching issue. I have '08 evo gsr and my belt failed at 33,000 miles (although it was 3 months after the 3 years expired). It ended up doing damage to the heads and I had to have them machined as well.

What ever happened with your car?

^ So after the install of the new turbo I kept having this on going problem with a fluctuating idle. After having gone back to stock and triple checking everything I finally remembered about the stupid boost pill that the tuner installs to increase boost pressure when tuning. I took that sucker off and replaced the hose along with downloading the stock map. After all that was done the car now runs the way it should and hasn't given me any further issues. So in the end it ended up being something simple that was overlooked. Glad to have the car fixed and I'm still going ahead with the sale of the vehicle.
