Default Engine Bay Painting

Did anyone paint their Engine Bay half Red like the EVO X? If so what kind of paint did you use and prep?

I was thinking of using VHT Flameproof, I dont have experience with spray painting the block. So dont take my word on this one. Unless someone else can confirm its good, that had used this stuff before.

It would withstand
1300°F-2000°F (704°C-1093°C)
per advertisement.

Are you referring to the plastic engine cover or the actual bay?!
If it's just the actual plastic cover any red paint will do. Make sure to tape off the areas you don't want painted carefully. I lightly scuffed the plastic with an abrasive pad, then I wiped it down and sprayed a few coats of primer. I waited for that to dry, then sprayed a few coats of red. After that dried I sprayed a few coats of clear and called it good. I used all Duplicolor high heat paint on mine and it came out pretty legit.

I have used the vht products before on engine builds and it held up great. I recomend, though if you guys are talking about the engine cover why not just buy one of the evos? I am sure there are people selling them for cheap.

^ I swapped my Engine cover with Evo X owner since the person decided to paint the cover to match his Apex Silver color.
Less hassle.

I like to do this kinda of stuff. Its more fun than buying something already finished. I was thinking of doing something custom on it just wanted to make sure I get the right paint that can handle the heat.

Thanks for the input!

Make sense. Not sure how well the vht would be for plastics i would almost say it would be best to get some plastic specific paint as i think it would hold up better in the long run.

My buddy used a rustoleum plastic paint on a coolent res and it is still holding up pretty good, i would sugest that.

i painted mine yellow since i didnt want it to look like an evo engine. i just used duplicolor engine enamel and some clear. I also used red pinstripe tape to cover up the ragged edges after peeling up the masking tape. I just used a fine grit sand paper to roughen up the surface a bit and use light even coats.
